Erebid/Materia
Statement
Erebid/Materia features two of my poems nestled among pulp painted abstract imagery on handmade paper. Conceived as an elegy for my father who died in 2021, the writing and imagery are meditations on my transcendent experiences of caregiving, grief, and the healing power of wonder. My personal experience of loss conjured bizarre dreams and forgotten memories of both Dad and moths. I began to notice moths everywhere in my waking world, creating an uncanny intersection of reality, recollection, and the unconscious. Bound dos-à-dos, from each side emerges a sculptural interior of handmade and printed pages that flutter open to reveal the book’s contents.
